So, you’ve decided to integrate Phrasee’s awesome AI subject line optimisation tech with Emarsys…
Just follow the steps below, and setting up your Phrasee split test campaign using the Emarsys integration is easy as pie!
The Phrasee integration with Emarsys is primarily a tool that creates versions of an email campaign with the subject lines generated in Phrasee and gets the results of the campaign once the split tests have been completed. The rest of the email campaign setup and scheduling will all be done in the normal way from within Emarsys.
The workflow will be something like the following.
- Create a campaign in Emarsys and get the email template ready to the point of scheduling, just like you normally would.
- Login to Phrasee and create a campaign, select the campaign created in Emarsys and complete the Phrasee workflow to “Push to Emarsys”. This creates versions for split testing in the Emarsys Campaign.
- Go back to Emarsys and schedule all the versions to be tested plus the final send to go to the remainder of the audience. Phrasee will automatically get the results for the campaign.
Start by creating your initial email in Emarsys as normal.
You can select either “Custom HTML Email” or “Block-Based Email” type. The choice is yours! This example uses the Block-Based Email.
Click on the “Create Campaign” button displayed in the template you want to use for this email.
Complete the “Content Creation” step 2 section in the Emarsys workflow.
Once you have completed and saved your step 2 “Content Creation” data, you’ll have to go back to step 1 and complete the “Email Settings” for your email, so you can select your “Recipient source”, “List”, “Language” and “Email name”.
Boom. Now simply complete and save your step 1 “Email Settings”.
Congratulations! You’ve now completed and saved step 1 “Email Settings” and step 2 “Content Creation”! Now it’s time to switch to Phrasee to generate your awesome subject lines.
Start by clicking “Create new Campaign” in the Phrasee dashboard. This will begin the campaign creation process. Easy, right?
Complete the form by selecting the project you want to work on in the “projects” dropdown menu (***note!*** this feature only available to clients who have already worked with Phrasee on multiple projects)
Give your campaign a name in Phrasee. You can use / copy the name from Emarsys if you prefer.
Next, simply select the email you have created in Emarsys for this particular send. The drop-down list will display the last seven days of campaigns that are in design / not sent yet.
Type in the number of contacts you are going to send this email to.
Enter the subject line that you (or your copywriter) would’ve sent with this email, so you can test your skills against the Phrasee AI.
Once you have filled out all the fields in Step 1 – “Create a Campaign”. Click on the “Go forth button”, so you can move on to step 2 of the Phrasee Workflow. But first, you’ll see the split test numbers that Phrasee’s AI has calculated to be the best for your test. Make note of these numbers, because you’ll need them later!
Click on “Continue”. It’s time for Step 2!
Complete the Phrasee campaign details. This will have been showed to you during your super exciting on-boarding session. Once your campaign information is entered, just click the “Magic button” and watch the Phrasee magic happen! Your subject lines will be ready in a matter of seconds, and you can move on to step 3: “Approve subject lines”.
Are you happy with the awesome subject lines Phrasee’s AI has generated for you?
We hope that you are, but there may be some minor changes you’d like to make.
You can edit and comment on anything you aren’t 100% satisfied with. Don’t worry, the Phasee AI will make note of your feedback and use it when generating subject lines for you in the future.
Once you’re satisfied, click “Accept and continue”. This will take you to Step 4 – “Final subject lines”.
Clicking the “Push to Emarsys” button will automatically create all your split test emails in Emarsys. You will get notification that your split test-ready emails have been created.
Nice work! You have now completed your campaign setup in Phrasee. It’s time to return to Emarsys to schedule your split test and final send emails.
Once you’ve switched back to Emarsys, you’ll see the versions of your email created by Phrasee. They look good, don’t they? Now you can move to Step 3 – “Deliverability Advisor”.
Perform your normal checks in the Emarsys deliverability Advisor – because deliverability matters!
The time allotted for your split test sends should be determined by subtracting the number of hours you want the split test to run before determining the winning subject line to send to the remaining recipients from the time of day you are planning to launch your final send. Ie. Phrasee recommends 4 hours for split testing each campaign, so if your normal send time is 10:00 am then you should schedule the split tests to begin at 6:00 am.
The process for scheduling your split tests needs to be repeated for each version of your email. Start by selecting the “Send to” option and entering the percentages recommended by Phrasee in the campaign setup or in the final subject line stage. (The ones you made note of, remember?)
For this example test Phrasee has recommended a split size of 37%.
Enter your split test percentage in the form, and then select the first subject line. ***NOTE*** don’t schedule the master email that has the campaign name. This is purely a master for system use. Only select versions that have a subject line to test. Lastly, select the date and time for your test send.
Now, complete the“check personalisation” window before clicking the “Launch Later” button.
This will confirm the date and time of the send and add the email to the scheduled emails for this campaign. Repeat these scheduling steps for each version of the email.
Scheduling final send
Once you have scheduled the split tests, you’re ready to set up your final send. To do this, select the “Final sending” option. When you select to automatically send the final version you’ll be presented with options of metrics for Emarsys to use when determining your winning subject line. Phrasee recommends using “the best open rate”. Once you’ve chosen your metric, click “Launch Later” and set the date and time for your final send. ***NOTE*** Remember to leave at least 4 hours for split testing between the start of your split tests and your final send time!
Once you have completed the scheduling you should have a scheduled email for each split test version, as well as your final send.
That’s it! Your campaign setup is complete. Phrasee will take it from here. We’ll automatically retrieve your split test results and include the winning subject line in your campaign’s final send. We’ll also retrieve the results of your final send 3 days after the campaign launch and send them to you to review.
